As effects of Kali Yuga were out of control, King Parikshit took some countermeasures. He performed Yajna and donations so people would be influenced by good things and be prevented from Kali Yuga's effects. During this journey, he encountered Kali Purush which was completely influenced by Kali Yuga.
While fighting with him, on plead of Kali Purush, instead of killing him, King Parikshit provided place and medium to live for people like Kali Purush so, they wouldn't affect other people. Also, he announced these things as to be avoided which will save people from getting affected by Kali Yuga. These things were gambling, alcoholism, debauchery and violence. Gold was announced as medium for their spread.
Death
In his later days, once, when King Parikshit went for hunt, in his anger, he put dead snake on Saint Scholar Shamik who was deeply meditating with close eyes. After his departure, son of Saint Shamik, Sringi cursed him and released poisonous snake Takshak to get king bitten to death within seven days.
After hearing news of this curse, king Parikshit left his kingdom enthroning his son Janamejaya and on bank of river Ganga, he devoted himself in listening of Shree Krishna's biography and Lord Vishnu's reincarnations. After this devotional conversation, he had no regrets of his life and he accepted his death happily.
